Thanks to Photoman for the reminder that "The US gets last weeks UK episode for this week. So it is a NEW episode for the US, just not the same new one."

Demons run when a good man goes to war.
Night will fall and drown the sun, when a good man goes to war.
Friendship dies and true love lies,
Night will fall and the good will rise,
When a good man goes to war.

To paraphrase Gangmy last week:

I am properly, properly excited. :)

Too much DONT YOU KNOW WHO HE IS, and it dragged in the middle, but overall pretty good. Ending would have been better if we hadn't all guessed it.

I like that the proper cybermen were casually brought back at full strength.

Brilliant episode, intriguing supporting characters, especially the Victorian Silurian girl. Nice call back to the cleric army as well, and at least the pirates from a couple of episodes ago manage to justify their existence.

Revelation at the end, saw that coming since the beginning of the series, but the rest was so good it deserves the top mark.

I thought it was the biggest pile of "fan wank" possible, far bigger than anything RTD did, it was convoluted in pieces and I struggled to follow it in a few places and thought that madam lady was talking about trapping the Doctor in the Pandorica and not Gangmy.

But I fucking loved it, I laughed out loud at places, muttered to myself and even though the ending was discussed ad nauseum around these parts, I was still slightly taken aback by it just like last week.

And yes, I thumped the air all American like with episode eights title!

That was fun - lot of good cameos, and expected revelation, blatantly obvious cockteases that didn't fool me for a second (Lesley's a different story...), background details that'll send fan fora into a tizzy, and some great Doc speeches and echoes of the previous season.

So i enjoyed it. Even though it was really just all buildup and fun cameos and stuff, and little in the way of solid content.

Confidential shows they filmed a lot of sword fights, which didn't make it into the filmed episode- boo.

Glad they're actually keeping the rumoured title for episode 8!

RTD take note: THAT is how you do fanwank.

And it was awesome.

It was nice seeing a reason for a thousand aliens to show up for once.

Definitely the most RTDish episode of The Moff's tenure to date - especially the first half. And the revelation....wasn't. Well, we all knew that. But never mind, it was still a lot of fun. Some good Rory stuff, too.

And the title of the next episode is the greatest title there's ever been of any show there's ever been. I laughed out loud when it came on screen! Fucking awesome.

Good episode - not great, though to be fair I'm not particularly interested in the ongoing plotlines in the first place.

I'll be surprised if there isn't some kind of reset somewhere as it seems unlikely they would leave Amy & Rory without their child to bring up.

River being their daughter makes her snogging the Doctor slightly disturbing though!

I am looking forward to the next episode as I have no idea where he is going to go next with this.

It was a reasonable episode, but as this is part 1 of a story, i think part 2 might be the better part. It did have it's moments however. Still not sure if this season is as strong as last season. As for when the Doc will be back I suspect sometime around mid-late september and certainly mid october at the very latest.

I took the second option. This had some wonderful character scenes, not just the Amy-Rory-Doctor ones but also one or two from the blue guy. It did seem a little contrived, though.

So... The Time Lords seemingly existed for billions of years, and regenerations are seemingly not a technological development but bestowed by the Time Vortex. That second bit seems ridiculously contrived.

Some questions I believe we're left with:
Is Melody the little girl from TIA/DOTM? If so, why didn't we see any acknowledgement of this from River? Also, has River/Melody got a full regeneration life cycle, and is it possible that she regenerates after the events of Forest Of The Dead?
Given that River was a girl when she met the Doctor and he "dropped from the sky", is Melody a few years older by the time he finds her?
Are Rory and Amy destined to be the Doctor's in-laws? How will the knowledge that their daughter is destined to die in FOTD affect him emotiomally? Will he conceal that information or tell them?
Why was the cot in the TARDIS? Sounds like he was planning ahead when he stole her.

^re your last point: why did he have that stupid mirror gadget thing last season? just as bizarre...

i loved it.

i just wish a certain someone (23skidoo) hadn't spoiled me by oh-so-casually mentioning who River was in a different thread.

:klingon:

Thank you Mr Moffat for the ten minutes I spent laughing after the episode finished thinking about all those people who've insisted time and again the you were too much of a "genius" to ever resort to River being Amy's daughter. Even though anyone with half-a-brain knew it was obvious from the end of the first episode of this series and indeed have been suggesting they'd be connected from the moment Karen Gillan's character was first named; eight months before Series 5 even started.

So, is there anyone left who doesn't think it was a reanimated Flesh Doctor who got killed by River in the Astronaut suit?

Oh, and I want more steampunk sword-wielding lesbian lizard action.

I can't tell you what I'd want to write with them in...
