2011 MLB Season Discussion

I love this time of year. Spring is in the air, and it's Opening Day in Baseball. It's that time of year everyone thinks they have a shot, especially in places like Kansas City and Pittsburgh and just the sight of Baseball coming back for real is pure awesomesauce (To coin a phrase from Parks and Recreation).

I've been looking forward to this day since November 3rd, which was the day of the Giants Parade through the streets of San Francisco. I can't wait to see what they have planned for an Encore, and I'm excited that Brandon Belt is on the opening day Roster. As for the A's, they look like they've improved to, and Baseball in the Bay Area is going to be great this year.

Happy Opening Day everyone.

I'm not really expecting the Jays to compete this year, but I have a good feeling we're at the start of something good. We've got a solid young pitching staff, and a good core of young players and prospects. So for me, the 2011 season is all about building for the 2012 season.

Oh, and I'm headed to Toronto tomorrow for the home opener! Looking forwards to it. :D

I'd love to be in Toronto for the Twins/Blue Jays opener.

Looking forward to the season. The Twins didn't make a lot of roster changes, but I'm not as confident this year. Probably because both Detroit and Chicago did make a lot of moves.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Jays gave the wild card a good run. The Yankees have taken a step back and if Boston or Tampa blows a tire, there might a chance.

However, I'm not sold on Brendan Morrow as a number two guy or as Francisico/Frasor/Rauch/Dotel/Camp as closer by committee.

National League is going Long Ball today so far. Hayward is now 2 for 2 on first bat Home Runs on Opening Day, and Milwaukee went back to back to start their game.

I could not have asked for a better opening day. J-Hey went yard in his first at bat again, the defense was solid, and the bullpen is phenomenal.

Going to be watching baseball all day!

Great, the Yankees are already in first place. Cut the whole team, Boston, and fire everyone in the front office! We'll never catch up to them now! :scream:

God, it's good to have baseball back again.

I think we have our first choke of the season. How could the Brew crew give up, what, a 3 run lead and lose after starting off so strong. Not happy about that, mainly since I had Gallardo on my fantasy team and he couldn't pick up the win. Not a good way to start the season.

I'm rather happy about that, as my week one opponent has Gallardo on *his* fantasy team. ;) Now if LA just holds on to get Weaver the win, I'll be golden. :D

Free baseball in STL. They also seem to go into extra innings when they're on National TV.

Three games on national TV tomorrow:

Fri, Apr 1 1:05 pm Houston Astros @ Philadelphia Phillies - ESPN
Fri, Apr 1 4:05 pm Boston Red Sox @ Texas Rangers - ESPN
Fri, Apr 1 10:05 pm Seattle Mariners @ Oakland Athletics - MLBN

I was at the Royals' home-opener tonight. Oy, what a miserable experience. The ticket I got through work was a shitty seat way out in right field a few rows behind the damn foul pole and the Royals just didn't make any showing whatsoever. The stadium was very damn crowded and it seemed like most of the 40,000 person crowd showed up at the same time I did which was pretty much around the time the game was supposed to start, I got a late start out there.

Seriously, it's freaking game time and there's still a horde of people trying to get in through the gate. and it seemed like most people where everywhere in the stadium but in their damn seat throughout the concourse and sitting two seats to my right was a loud, obnoxious, probably drunk woman with a cackling laugh talking constantly to the woman behind her about her various "female issues" she's been having lately. Neither of them were even watching the damn game. And to top it all off it was overcast and chilly, not very good baseball weather.

Next time I go to a game I'll be sure and buy a ticket through other sources (rather than through work which, apparently, has shitty seats) as I prefer sitting in the first tear within the first-base line (normally these are more expensive seats and there's usually a more, ahem, higher-caliber crowd there) the weather will be more temperate and I'll be sure and give myself a lot more time to get there. The Royals will also be in full-on suck mode by then so the stadium will be less crowded.

All and all it was an alright experience but, ugh, not a great one. I've had more fun in games before in the past. Oh, and at the game I couldn't get any connection between my Blackberry and the internet.

First pitch of the Rockies home opener is in 6.5 hours, and I will be sitting..... In an all day project planning meeting...

Regardless, baseball is back, so life is good!

Sorry, but no respect for the rally monkey. Not much respect for any franchise that needs reminders on the video board that it's time to cheer. And in LA, how many people are even still in the stadium after the 7th inning or so to SEE said monkey?

Went to my first Celtics game in a while, and was kinda disappointed that there was a video of Garnett that they played in the last couple minutes, jumping around and begging people to stand up and cheer, "we need you!" etc. Pretty lame. If you're such a poser that you need to be encouraged to stand up and cheer in the last moments of a tight game, stay home...

When I went to a Georgia State game last year to see JSU, they had about 500 fans there, and they kept showing two local rappers on the video board that were trying to "pump it up". I couldn't quit laughing.

Apparently three Giants fans were attacked by Dodgers fans in the parking lot after the game. I'm just going to say that, were this Philadelphia, the entire city of fans would have been blamed for the attack. Rant aside, I hope for their speedy recovery.

Anyway, Phillies-Astros about to start :D
