I never never never could have imagined that
they were on a space ship, and this was their part of a sleep simulation during voyage. I saw the somewhat modern tech at the end of the series, but at best i thought it would be set in the present, but not so far in to the future.
I am guessing 2nd season might be set in a different simulation, and that would be the theme of this series

Seriously, did no one else watched this show? The name doesn't say Sci-fi, but it's actually Sci-fi.

So, did this show end on a cliffhanger? It has now been cancelled, so I am wondering if I should watch it or not.

This was the first show I wanted to see, but didn't bother with until I found out if Netflix was going to renew. This is going to be my go to MO for new shows on Netflix.

It ended on a cliffhanger and, yes, it has been official cancelled.

Like you I have officially reached the point where I won't start a new show on NF unless it's already been concluded and given a proper ending, either because its a couple of years old or because it was a mini in the first place.

It was a cliffhanger, but really in the sense that the end of Planet of the Apes is a cliffhanger. Like I was ok if it ended there but I would have liked more.

^Well, that makes me consider finishing the season, though I'm "only" three episodes in.

I have to say, Netflix really dropped the ball on this cancellation IMO. They released the series on the same day as Wednesday, which obviously dominated everything else, then they released three high profile movies with Slumberland, Pinocchio and Glass Onion, and then it's the holiday season when most people were probably looking for more for wholesomeness and/or uplifting spectacle in their movies and TV shows. At least that was why I put a long pause between watching the first two episodes back in early December and then the third last Sunday. Maybe they should have given it another month to let people actually find and watch it.

That seems really quick or does Netflix only hem and haw when they've actually made the decision to renew and they're just trying to get more eyes.

Watched another episode, episode 5 with the first major spoiler included - I am finishing the season regardless of cancellation. I hope it gets rescued from some other service.

Netflix also has a discovery and visibility issue. They throw shows and movies on there with little promotion, unless it's something Netflix has high hopes on success for, and they leave them to sink and swim. It's little surprise in this case when a show gets cancelled after a season. It's like they treat these as buffer releases with no expectations.

I think Korean shows are the new standard. If a foreign show isn't in the top-10, top-5 watched like say Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, or Attorney Woo they're probably not getting another year unless they're being heavily financed overseas and Netflix is mostly just paying some additional 'rights fees' to carry it and not actually pay to produce it.

Netflix and HBOMax are in competition to see who can be the worst streaming service at this point. They set this up to fail and then immediately canceled it over the holiday season when most people aren't watching any TV at all. I'm hoping that some other service steps up.

It's becoming clearer now after the fact but I don't know if it's obvious to viewers how important these first days of attachment are as well as how quickly they view it from first to last. Frustrated audiences who say they'll wait to see if a show is picked up for another season before they watch the first are making for a vicious circle. I know I've always thought they'd measure success by how many subscribers they have and that part of the appeal of a streaming service is you can watch shows on your schedule but it's proving to be much more cutthroat than that. With all the emphasis on total hours, even minutes, watched it's no wonder they're always trying to feed the next show before the last one's credits have even rolled.

I disagree with that mentality. They are providing a service that the customer pays for and the customer should not feel indebted to "binge" a show just because they want to see it renewed. Netflix needs to rethink their business model if they don't want to sink their own ship. I'd suggest a month out campaign where many people opt out of the service on the same day for a two week or even a month would be a more effective way of speaking out.

The last scene was interesting, and what all the people suddenly did was creepy, but now that it's cancelled, it's kinda pointless to watch it
