I find it intriguing that his first flashback, at the very beginning of season 2 was of the day that Locke blew open the hatch, & he was randomly going about his morning routine

Now during the snowman question scene, Des does seem a bit wonky, but after around 40 days of having your sleep disrupted every 1:48, wouldn't a person be downright psychotic?

No, it'd be similar to having to go to the bathroom often.

Back in the third season or so we were discussing this. I remember suggestions that people planning on boating around the world can train their brain to function with short sleep intervals. But he wasn't exactly a model of sanity when he was found in the hatch, to be fair.

No, it'd be similar to having to go to the bathroom often.

Quite. I wake up 3-4 times a night to go to the bathroom, and I'm not insane. It's not even something he has to fully wake up for.
