So completely on a whim, I decided to sit down and watch the Flash movie last night on HBO Max. And I think my biggest feeling at the end was that it was... so much of a waste of potential?

Not Flash himself, Ezra Miller still seems like horrible casting for Barry and left me very cold. For the most part, it wasn't all bad but most of the time, was the worst person on screen. But obviously if I made it through the entire movie where Miller was in 95% of frames it wasn't impossible. (And frankly I wasn't a fan of their Iris either - the CW Iris and Barry were both leagues better for my money.)

But no, I mean a waste of potential of Sasha Calle's Supergirl, and both versions of Batman to be honest. I really liked Keaton's Batman, he was probably the highlight of the movie for me, both as Bats and as Bruce. And Sasha Calle was a very different version of Kara than I'm used to but absolutely wonderful. Having both of them die (especially Kara, who we saw absolutely beat the snot out of Zod in a very satisfying way) was... well, I just rolled my eyes, to be honest. At least if they'd both come back at the end, that would have been one thing but... nope.

Probably Affleck's best outing as Batman as well, even though I've never seen and don't plan to see any version of Justice League. His conversation with Barry before the big reset was really good. And Gal Godot's cameo was delightful, probably the funniest moment in the movie. I also really enjoyed the "CORY STOLTZ?!" moments and the whole conversation about actors in different roles.

I will say also, some of the CGI was so insanely bad and plasticky, I felt like I was watching the big brawl from The Matrix Reloaded. I know there was a lot of it needed but even so... yikes.

So yeah, overall... not a good movie, but had some really bright spots and if we could have a movie that was just Keaton's Batman, Calle's Supergirl, and somebody else tying them together to save the world, I'd be totally down.

This times infinity -- mostly re: Kara/Calle, who was the movie's highlight for me. I was downright angered by the film's callously cruel treatment of her.

i am hoping we see some real emotion from Lady Gaga. From what i have seen previously, her delivery rivals that of Dakota JOhnson in Madame Web

Is this version of Harley an inmate at Arkham instead of a shrink?
I'm a little disappointed that Lady Gaga isn't doing the Jersey accent. I know Kaley Cuoco doesn't do it for the Harley cartoon, so it's not the first version of her not to have it.

I really like Kaley Cuoco’s version of Harley. I really don’t know what to think of Lady Gaga in the role. I feel like the only reason she was cast is because it’s a musical. I guess I’ll have to see how she does but I’m not sold on her as Harley.

We'll be getting Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner in James Gunn's Superman, and a Lanterns series focused on Hal Jordan and John Stewart. So we'll be getting plenty of GL material once the new DCU gets going.

I don't really see Phoenix as a traditional Joker so it doesn't seem off-putting to me within the microcosm set up by the Joker movie. Then again, after Leto and Gotham's "Jerome" and not being an active comic reader I'm not sure what a mainstream Joker looks like these days.

So artists go for the Ledger look. Some keep it traditional.

Sadly, yes. Superman & Lois just finished shooting its final episode ever -- the last gasp of what was once a thriving DC ecosystem on the network.

True dat. For me, the highlights of the CWDC legacy are S&L, Black Lightning, and the first four seasons of Supergirl. And Smallville, if you want to reach back that far.

Some of that, admittedly, is my Super-centrism. The Flash and Arrow, for example, both had strong seasons, especially early on; I just don't care as much.

I still believe Supergirl's lone good season was the first (with problems along the way). If the production had been a series of TV movies with S1's content, it would have earned a pretty high standing for superhero TV productions.

I strongly believe season four is at least as good, if not better. Superb stuff in every way and on every level, and certainly one of the better seasons of superhero television I've ever seen.

Obviously you don't agree, but it's a pleasant surprise to see you praising season one, at least.
