Here we are then. It's April 7 and the premiere is tonight. I'll have to avoid this forum once the really big spoilers start hitting the bbs in the next 48 hours or so :/

Well, I have asked that those attending the advance screenings (including the premiere in Sydney) restrict the spoilery stuff to the pinned discussion thread, but it's true that keeping it completely airtight is going to be difficult to manage, in the long run.

I'm more worried about the media letting something slip. I'm getting somebody to read the papers before I do tomorrow, just to be safe.

having a dedicated thread for that is a really good idea..
now if i just have the will power to stay out..
but it is going to make it easier for people instead of there being new multiple threads discussing different aspects of the movie.
and it is especially going to help hopefully in keeping spoilerly titles out.
the dangerous thing is that a person can even avoid the forum but still be spoiled depending on which thread is at the top and then appears on the index page.

Yeah, some idiot reporter is sure to blab. I'll be sticking to the sport sections of the papers (online) and skipping Today in the morning.
And staying out of here, of course. I reckon people will be good and keep the spoilers confined but that doesn't mean I won't be tempted to read them.
I hope those TBBSers who attend will have a great time. Just under four hours 'til show time.

Surprised at the lack of media attention this premiere has got here in the last few days, actually. There's two articles on the SMH website which aren't even on the front page, and nothing in the other states' papers. Hopefully there will be more after the event.

There was an item on one of the Sydney news progerammes. Think they showed it because of the 'Lost' link (their station shows it).

Re: Aussie fans... walk the red carpet at the Premiere in Sydney!
There's a "full preview" on Today Tonight in the next few minutes!
Edit: For anyone who didn't see it, there were interviews with Abrams, Pine, Quinto, Urban, Bana and...the guy who plays Sulu.
They called it Star Trek Eleven!
Pine said Star Trek was more a "cult of personality" than sci-fi.
There was also one absolute WTF spoiler regarding a love interest...

Re: Aussie fans... walk the red carpet at the Premiere in Sydney!
Both the 10 and 9 news bulletins had brief blurbs on the event. (I won't watch any 7 "news".) I'll be interested to see if Aunty considers it worthy of note.
God, I hope Richard Wilkins wasn't let anywhere near anyone associated with the movie. Angela Bishop was bad enough.

What are you talking about? The front cover of Saturday's The Sydney Morning Herald's "Spectrum" arts & entertainment lift-out is a full page pic of Zachary Quinto doing the Vulcan salute, and the interview with him, and pre-publicity on the premiere, is a double page feature spread on pages 4 and 5.

Well, I did have 7 on, and "Today Tonight" showed most of the trailer footage, excerpts from TOS and TMP, and all-new studio interviews with Pine, Quinto, Cho and Abrams, plus an interview with Eric Bana in a live (or just-delayed) cross to the red carpet.

That would be the article I saw on the site, which was quite good. I'm glad it got prominence in the physical paper.
In the major Victorian papers, though, there's been next to nothing about the premiere. Considering all the general build to the film (which has been covered very well in these papers), I expected more about the world premiere in our nearest state, particularly with a Melbourne boy in attendance.
Not a major concern or complaint, just an observation.
Edit: As I say that, though, they've added a few articles in the last couple of hours. The Courier Mail even has a Star Trek slideshow. I love the Enterprise on its "five year mission" - with a picture of the Enterprise D! Great gallery though. http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/g...7115-6,00.html

I see they got an image from my favourite DS9 episode, the one where the station travels to Earth and is saved by Han Solo.

Re: Aussie fans... walk the red carpet at the Premiere in Sydney!
Brief article from today's Herald Sun:
THERE were plenty of Star Trek salutes but the much-hyped world premiere of the latest instalment from the sci-fi franchise lacked crowds, costumes and celebrities when it debuted at the Opera House last night.
While stars of the $210 million blockbuster, including Eric Bana, Bottle Shock actor Chris Pine, 24 star Zachary Quinto, Heroes man John Cho and super director JJ Abrams were out in force and dressed to impress, the couple of hundred fans failed to fill the sprawling Harbour forecourt, which organisers expected to be packed.
Screams were replaced by an eerie silence and hardcore Trekkers were few and far between, with Confidential spotting only one - 2dayFM radio announcer Timothy Dunlop.
Abrams, stepping on stage to announce Bana's arrival to rapturous applause, thanked the Sydney for holding the premiere, telling those who lobbied online for a Northern Hemisphere premiere: "Why are we doing it here? The question is why isn't everybody doing it here and why did you let us come?"
Bana won the biggest laugh when he said: "JJ, if you would allow me this indulgence, I've always dreamed of this moment . . ." and burst out singing: "Australians all let us rejoice ..."
Noticeable no-shows were Jessica Mauboy, Buffy star Amber Benson and Megan Gale, with the latter's boyfriend Andy Lee simply saying it was a "man's night".
Bana's wife Rebecca, freezing in her frilly frock, bolted inside after photos, leaving the spruiking duties to her husband.
Elegant author Tara Moss almost had a wardrobe malfunction, with her silk dress riding dangerously close to her decolletage

Re: Aussie fans... walk the red carpet at the Premiere in Sydney!
Here in Melbourne there is almost nothing about it. The Entertainment/Film page at the age website ( http://www.theage.com.au/entertainment/film/ ) last Trek related story is the news of a sequel taken from last weeks Variety - not a peep about the premiere.
