Escape From City 17 Part One.

Warning, this does contain strong, bloody violence near the start.

This is superbly done, considering it apparently only cost a few thousand dollars to make.

That's pretty cool. And am I reading that right 600,000 views in one day? Impressive.

Now I'm getting an itching to finish HL2, I know I'm close to the end but I abandoned before completing it a while back and never returned to it...yet

^Sacrilege! It's the best game I have ever played. I say that without hyperbole. It is just that damned good.

I still need to play episode 2, mainly because evacuating people to the trains was getting too damn frustrating to finish in episode 1.

^Episode 2 is quite a bit better than Episode 1.

That is awesome... And the trailer at the end for the upcoming parts really do make it even more amazing! :D It's giving me an itch to replay the game. :)

That is ridiculously freaking awesome. Can't wait to see the rest.

Also, I will echo the sentiment that if you haven't played Episode 2 yet, you really should. It way more than makes up for the lacklusterness of Episode 1. It's really, really cool.

Well, maybe I'll just skip the end of Episode 1, then. As I understand it, nothing too earthshaking happens so I'm not too worried about it... lol.

    I dunno.

There are some battles in familiar streets you saw before in HL2 and the route through the hospital near the end is superb because...

It's a three way battle, the hospital is overrun with Zombies while the Combine are looking for you. It really shows the Combine AI, how they work together to fight the Zombies.

I agree with that. I recently played all of HL2, including the two episodes, and I was much fonder of Ep2. But then I usually prefer levels set outside vs. the very dark levels set in tunnels or car parks which characterized quite a bit of Ep1.

Ep2 does have some tunnel crawling near the start with the Antlion nest, but I agree, the game opens up quite considerably once you get the car.

Oh, I got through there. It's the very end of it I stopped at, where you're ferrying people from the safe house to the train. I'm down to 50 health and no amour thanks to a grenade and I kept getting killed by a Strider (at least I think it was a Strider there), so I gave up in frustration.

^I think you're merging two parts of the game there in your memory.

There's the part where you have to escort groups of resistance fighters and civilians to the train. The worst you get there is a APC firing rockets but you should have a rocket launcher of your own by then and there's a load of rockets near the door to the train station.

In that part I also recommend setting some traps near the buildings the enemy soldiers repel down. Put the hopper mines there and also there are some exploding barrels you can move over with the gravity gun.

Once you get past that, then comes the Strider. You and Alyx try to get on a different train to Barney and the civilians. You get separated and just as you are about to meet up with her, a Strider appears. You have to run through the shipping containers and between trains to get to a platform with a infinite supply of rockets.

Don't both trying to kill the Strider before you get to the platform. You won't last two seconds. Just concentrate on getting to the platform.

So far so okay. Don't get me wrong, it is well made, but the majority of the film is them amongst those trains, and I'm a bit annoyed with the sound design. I can barely hear the dialogue and the don't have to have the radio-going-offline-combine-dying-sound every time they kill a combine! IIRC it's not like that in the game.

That being said it looks like the upcoming parts will be a bit more intresting.

That was really well-done. I thought they should have edited out that line, 'I HATE walking!' because it was really dumb. Other than that, they seem to have captured the feel of the game. The guns are all accurate, the Combine don't look TOO fake, and the sounds are right out of the game.

I gave up at the end of Ep 2. Just can't manage all those striders and hunters.

Yeah that was hard. My advice: Save frequently, after each successful hit on a strider if necessary. If things go south, just restore from the last hit and move on. As for the Hunters... Just run them over with your car. Most satisfying.

I've tried that, but I keep missing them. I can't seem to drive straight when I'm hopped up on adrenaline. :D
