What should change about the possible new Star Trek Experience?

There is currently a lot of talk about a new Star Trek: The Experience opening up in the Neonopolis mall in Las Vegas. From what i have read, it is looking very likely that it will go ahead. The props and materials have been licensed out off CBS, which is certainly a very good sign.

What i'm interested in finding out, is what people think should change about the possible new STTE? There is talk of the klingon ride being updated with new footage of the shuttle flight which is in my opinion very much needed. what else could they do? change the menu at quarks? change quarks into something else? change the museum layout? In my opinion, Quarks should remain the same, only maybe a little bigger, and the museum should have more of an interactive feel. Keep the borg ride the way it is.

What does everyone else think should change? or what new things could they bring in? how heavily should it be tied in with a film we currently don't know a huge amount about?

I just hope it doesn't change to reflect the new movie too much.
I still want to be able to go there and have a few drinks.

i know what you mean. if its too based around TOS/new movie, it would alienate a lot of other fans. If the warp core breach isn't on the menu i will be gutted. i have to spend a lot of money to come to the experience, i want it just the way i remember it lol

I don't mind an update to reflect TOS(as in the show made in the 60's), it's Abrams' movie that gives me pause.
If it does revolve mostly around the movie, then I'll just stay away from it.
I really am at peace with the Experience I knew being gone.
I got to see and do everything I wanted to do when I was there in August.
Well, everything except sampling all of the beverages.

There are only two main things that I would like to remain the same:

    1. Quarks - To me Quarks was the reason to go to the Exp. I like the rides but I loved Quark's. I would be nice to have a few more TV screens playing different episodes from all of the series.

2: The Promenade - When I first went back in 2005 the promenade was open above you to give a real feeling of being on Deep Space nine. I loved that aspect. Then in 2006 or 2007 it was covered over by the Captains lounge (or what ever it was called).

Like everyone else it would be nice for all of the series to be represented. What would be cool is that they use the Klingon encounter transporter effect to beam on to Deep space nine (to enter the Experience) and then to leave you use a docking port (the big gear/wheels rolling away)

I cant wait for a warp core breach and a tranya.

    Kev.

I think what will be crucial is that the new movie follows the trek canon, if it does then great, and the new experience can draw from that. if it isnt, then who knows how the place will change.

i personally am not at peace with saying goodbye to the old experience, as it was the reason for me to go to vegas as often as i did. the guys who are bringing the experience back have bought all the original materials and props, so a lot of what was there before will be again hopefully. they surely bought into this knowing its background and its unique selling points. plus they must realise that a lot of people will go if they know they can still get a warp core breach in quarks lol.

    your thoughts?

the promonade could do with some improvement. get more authentic star trek stuff on sale, and not just STTE heavily branded merchandise - i own too much of that already

here is a thought: instead of basing the new experience round DS9 like the old one. why not try something different? like maybe basing it in san fransico at Starfleet headquarters/starfleet academy. that way the whole experience could be to act as though we are new cadets at the academy. they could incorparate sisco's dads restaurant into it and the bar from Enterprise (cant remember its name)

I would make the focus the new movie, but keep references to other trek (especially the original movies and TNG). Quarks would be a definite, since it was pretty popular (also, it's a way for them to make money ;) ).

I would like to see Quark's and the Promenade expanded to be more like actual size. They had the right look and tone, but they felt a bit cramped.

They could take over Fort Baker in Marin County, the most likely location for Starfleet HQ based on photographic evidence...

There's nothing there now except some dumb children's museum. Boot em out! :bolian:

I would love to see a bigger and slightly more detailed Quarks, and I was a little disappointed with the feel of the promenade so if they could tweak those two things I would be happy.

I loved the Klingon ride but felt that the graphics were a little washed out so if they could improve that aspect it would be even better.

On the other had another part of me has always wanted to go for a drink in Ten Forward on the Enterprise D...

Film sets are often surprisingly small. I doubt the floorplan of Quark's was much smaller than that on the show, even if the multiple levels weren't represented.

Personally, I think the DS9 focus of the thing was ultimately a mistake, as the show was not as popular as some of the others. Most of the people I know would've rather wandered something like a part of the 1701-D than DS9.

That said, I was just walking around Neonopolis the other day, and it's not doing well, which is why they're trying to get some new blood into it. I'd worry that their budget will be considerably less than that for something like in a major casino, so I'd be surprised if it's totally redesigned, as that would be a lot of expensive than re-using what already exists.

I hope they keep the Quark Bar. I loved that place. I'm really glad they are likely going to revamp the Experience. I've been there so many times.

To my way of thinking, what was always missing from the original experience (STTOE) was TOS/movie-era theming of some sort. A ride or environment that honors the original crew and adventures was sorely lacking. I think Abrams' new movie, meanwhile, should be acknowledged in a more temporary way until we know whether it is going to "stick" and catch on. If it does so, it can be included in a more permanent fashion, though admittedly having TOS and Abrams' re-envisioning standing side by side presents some tough-to-resolve issues.

Klingon Encounter definitely needs an update as far as simulator graphics and technology are concerned, but I see no reason not to keep the TNG theme and reuse the Riker-La Forge live-action footage. Stuff like that, filmed as it was while they were still relatively young and fresh, has an authenticity-of-era to it that it would be foolish to discard. I''ll bet they wish they had that sort of interactive adventure footage of the TOS cast! Borg Invasion I would also like to see kept.

As far as bars go: KEEP QUARK'S! Quark's was the heart and soul of that place. If they desire to expand the themes/eras represented, I could see one bar room being Quark's and another smaller one receiving ENT theming ala the Starfleet hangout in San Fransisco... meanwhile a nice restaurant could be themed on Ten Forward. I envision one large bar/retaurant facility with different rooms themed from different shows.

The most important parts of STTOE were Quark's and the cast of actors. The interactions with that authentic environment and that cast of dedicated and brilliant performers were the reason I kept coming back even after having ridden the rides hundreds of times.

I would still visit, often, a version that had no rides but kept the Museum of the Future, the shopping area (theme it however you like) and Quark's.

While I know the old experience will never be back, but I woud definately welcome a new one. As far as the new Abrams movie, I'm kind of mixed on it. On one hand I do welcome new Trek, but from what I've seen of the bridge pics and the new Enterprise I can only hope it's one hell of a story and just like the TOS series the story can outshine the effects which is what makes Star Trek work.

I like having 3 different types of restaurants, but the new experience has to have Quarks, everything else is negotiable in my book.

Ten Forward would be a perfect bar/restaurant if they had to replace Quarks with something more recognizable. Have videoscreen windows with the ship in orbit of planets and going into warp.

^That was how I envisioned doing Ten Forward as well.

Another thing they could do to have the experience encompass all of Trek while still maintaining DS9 as the main setting would be to make use of Quark's holosuites.

All they would have to do is "program" each holosuite to represent a specific era in Star Trek. I don't know what kind of floor space they would need for that but it would be kind of cool to see.

I think they could keep quarks AND get a 10-forward restaurant in there. In STTOE they had the Quarks (bar) side and the Federation (restaurant) side; what if they kept Quarks and changed the Federation side to 10-Forward. I know it would be strange to have it set up, because the original idea was a full replica of the Promenade and Quarks fit right in, but if they decide to remove the whole ds9 aspect they could use both, otherwise I really don't see how they could keep it believable, unless they did them as two seperate entities; maybe the Captains Lounge could be 10-Forward instead.
