How do you think they'll promote the new Spider-Man?

I was thinking about this today upon hearing the news about Martin Sheen being cast.

Do you think they'll just act like it's a new thing and ignore what came before?

Do you think they'll draw attention to what came before?

Do you think they'll "try to explain themselves?" As in something along the lines of "Spider-Man has had many comic visions over the years (cue montage of covers of "Web of," "Amazing" and "Peter Parker, The Spectacular"...and now comes a new film vision from the aptly named..." or something like that?

How do you think they'll go about promoting a "redo" of something that was done so recently? The Incredible Hulk ignored what came so recently before in its marketing, and that didn't seem to help too much...

Maybe they'll have a throwaway line or a nod to the previous trilogy. Or maybe Aunt May will yet again say: "You're not Superman, you know."

Sigh... we've been over this... The Incredible Hulk did just fine.

    ...

    Wait, Martin Sheen?! F* YEAH!

I hope they call it The Amazing Spider-Man. With this Peter and that Uncle Ben, they've earned it. :bolian:

    Tell me about it.
Someone who is running Hollywood is convinced that we are content to sit through two more hours of finding out how Peter Parker becomes Spider Man.

Sorry, should that be in spoiler tags? :)

^^ Uh, sorry Gaith but you trailed off there. You were about to explain something about the new Spider Man film not being an origin story?

I'm genuinely eager to hear about it. And hopeful it isn't an origin story.

Well the possibility of Sheen being used for brief flashbacks rather than in a major role has occurred to me, fingers crossed.

I really hope it's titled The Amazing Spider-Man. It would help separate this film from the others, and furthermore, you could end up calling the sequels The Spectacular Spider-Man and The Sensational Spider-Man.

I'm hoping they do the same, and that the inevitable sequel will be called The Spectacular Spider-Man. No idea what to call a presumptive third movie, though. :ouch:

Just no more lame titles with just a number attached, please.

EDIT: Aha, thank you Jackson! I'd forgotten about Sensational.

So long as they don't call the third film The Amazing Spider-Man Rises. ;)

"From the Director of 500 Days of Summer comes a new take on an old favorite..." etc etc. I think we'll get a new title as people have suggested already. From what little I've read of the plot and the younger casting it would seem to suggest that Vanderbilt and Webb read some Ultimate Spider-Man. Not saying that it will be an exact adaption of USM but will at least be inspired by it and perhaps have a little 616 flavor mixed in. I'm partial to Amazing Spider-Man, I don't think they'll call it "Spider-Man".

Well, they're appealing to the Twilight crowd... so, shirtless guys, teen angst and some questionable special effects. ;)

I was going to say earlier just because Uncle Ben is cast doesn't mean it will be an origin story. Cliff Robertson returned in flashback for the third one after all.

I'd promote the new Spider-Man by buying a full-page ad in every newspaper in America. It's sure to work. I just know it is.
