That artist is one of my favorites there. It's an excellent work for the Excelsior idea in the Kelvin universe, and I imagine something like that would be the initial design until Marcus wanted it bigger in the face of the Narada and threat of Klingon war.

Head Canon: The Constitution Class we would've seen in Phase II actually exists as a class of starship, it's just called something else. Why do I imagine it as being canon in my head-canon? Because it truly does look like an intermediate step between TOS and TMP.

A lot of Connie's were lost during TOS. Maybe the ones that were recovered were refit into an intermediary phase. No pun intended.

I personally wish the predecessor to the Constitution class was established as the Declaration class.

Or Confederation-class since the Articles preceded the Constitution. :)

At least some of the graphics displays on the bridge in the first three films that one would assume show the refit actually show the Phase II configuration (thanks to @Maurice for pointing this out). Given that some of the displays also show the OG configuration of the ship (or at least the Franz Joseph blueprint and Tech Manual version of it, e.g.: https://movies.trekcore.com/gallery...1/chapter-02/st-tsfs-remaster-bluray-0181.jpg), in-universe it's clear that the computer was never fully upgraded for the TMP refit (why? who knows?). The computer even has the TOS destruct sequence codes still set from "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield."

This provides canonical evidence that supports the reality of the Phase II configuration, at least as something that Starfleet had intended to apply to the Enterprise, if not as an actual configuration that the ship had after TOS and prior to TMP.

    Example:

    Note the twin bridge elevators!

Good eye, I'd forgotten about the shield graphics. The Reliant bridge also shows a secondary hull FWIW. :)

This actually reminds me of another head canon thing of mine - the refit Enterprise was more extensively refit than any other ship of the class. As the lead ship of the refit, it was equipped with anything and everything Starfleet was working on at the time, making it unique. Other ships would retain more TOS-oriented systems, just less obviously. They would all look roughly the same outside and inside, with only residual things like the retro hangar deck from TFF showing outward differences. It wouldn't be until you "popped the hood" on various systems that you'd truly notice the differences.

    Ooooh...have I got a good one!

The reason Spock's Vulcan name is unpronounceable is because it is not spoken or written but telepathic. Amanda's claims to be able to pronounce it "After a fashion, and after many years of practice" is either due to the telepathic bond she has with her husband - he being able to coax out any vestiges of latent telepathy in her/her being able to "hear" what he says when they touch and/or meld - or because she has invented for herself a "broken Vulcan" transliteration for the name.

The Stargazer was indeed the yellow "NCC-7100" model seen in Picard's ready room. After she was launched circa 2287, the entire class had problems such that the Stargazer was quickly decommissioned. She was later recommissioned as NCC-7100 as a warp test vehicle, explaining the yellow paint. Starfleet hoped to use the ship in a last-ditch effort to solve the class's lingering problems. Ultimately, these problems were successfully worked out thanks to these extensive trials and the Stargazer was returned to active duty with her original registry (and paint job) in 2326.

Unlike most fan-based info, I do not think the USS Constitution (lead ship of the Constitution class) was NCC-1700. In order to accommodate USS Constellation NCC-1017, USS Eagle NCC-956 and others, I think the Constitution's registry is *much* lower, like in the 700-950 range.

Where do we get on screen support for the Eagle being Constitution Class with that registry?

Within the last few years I've head cannoned the Constellation being a Bonaventure type (same class as the Bonaventure from TAS).

The extended cut of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country shows it on an operational plan with a Constitution-class icon.

unless, the Constellation and Eagle are legacy names like “Enterprise”. They just didn’t add the “A” to the registry.
