3 Sulus (2 Takei, 1 Cho) but no Blalock or Billingsley?

Keenser, Nero and the bad guy from Insurrection (?!?!) but no Walter Koenig?

It's a nice picture, I suppose, but the composition gets really messy the more you look at it and there's a lot missing.

I kinda like that about it. It's got big characters, small characters, bit parts, etc. A little bit of everything.

I think the world was ready for a Seven of Nine/Enterprise-G spin-off but then Patrick Stewart went on the publicity tours declaring the TNG cast could make another movie!

I saw a lot more demand for a Pike show than I have seen for legacy

Plus, with a Pike show, we knew exactly what we wanted. We wanted the further adventures of The Enterprise, with Pike in command.

Honestly, I'm not sure some of the fans screaming about Legacy will be happy with the version of the show they're most likely to get.

    No.

Unless I’m mistaken, all Stewart said was that somebody gave him a script for a movie about Picard.

This one still baffles the mind.

What more can you possibly do with the character?

He's reached a point of happiness and rekindled his bonds of friendship He vanquished his greatest enemy. He made peace with his place in the galaxy. He possibly reunited with his "one true love." He formed a relationship with a son he didn't know he had.

    His Legacy is secure.

I mean seriously. The book of Jean-Luc Picard is full. Time to move on.

I think there's just as much demand for A show called "Legacy", but like others have said, what that show would be is very much up in the air.

A return of the TNG cast? Continuing usage of the Ent-D? What the hell?
Star Trek should always be moving forward, not looking back. Fans of TNG who are clamoring for MORE TNG have really kind of missed the point, I think. TNG, for the most part, went out of its way to avoid referencing the Original Series (The Naked Now being a really weird exception).

And yes, I know I've bitched and bitched about the Academy series being in the 32nd century, but that's mainly because it's so far in the future it feels completely disconnected from everything else.

A show called Legacy rings alarm bells for me because I don't want a "Memberberries" show, I want something new. Star Trek doesn't need to be so incestuous, and it shouldn't be.

Yeah, something like that would be cool. I might try creating something like that at some point. :)

By the way, the concept of this illustration from the article is also pretty neat …

(Although it’s weird to not show the original TV Enterprise and the one from the Kelvin Movies.)

But it has been, since TNG. It's doubled down on it since ENTERPRISE, and has felt the need to go back and revisit periods. Even Discovery in the 32nd century still has callbacks to Archer, to TNG, to TOS. There is not a lot new because the positive loud voices hype on the familiar.

"Season 3 is the best season of Picard." Brings back multiple familiar things.

"SNW is perfect!" Brings back multiple TOS items and characters.

"Legacy is a great idea and neeeds to happen. It can bring back Kestra, and Naomi Wildman, and Alexander, and we can visit Cardassia and see the rebuild, and Riker's kid will be there, and LaForge's, and Worf's, and also Seven can be there."

Like, oof. That does not sound new. Now, I'm painting in broad strokes and think some good things have come out of each show. But Trek has shown an insecurity around straying too far from the familiar.

There's a difference, I think, between what I'm complaining about and some of what you're describing. SNW is great, and part of that is because it is fleshing out characters we never saw much of before. But yes, it is also heavily Memberberries.
Picard Season 3 worked not on its own but as a final resolution to TNG after the sour taste of Nemesis.
ENT worked best when it wasn't doing callbacks but was instead forging its own story (The founding of the Federation).
I don't think it's bad to mention previous series. It adds flavor to the story being told, reminds you that things that happened before still matter. But don't make that the backbone of the whole freaking show.

I never wanted a Legacy show. I wanted a new show that expanded the story of the universe itself. I don't want a ship jam-packed with Naomi and Kestra and Alexandra. It's bad enough to put LaForge AND Picard/Crusher's kid on it.
You want to put Seven on there? ONE character? Sure. It worked for DS9 with O'Brien. But what happens in another 20 years, when Trek hasn't created any NEW characters for people growing up today to look back on fondly? Which will happen if we're too busy cannibalizing the 90's series to artificially inflate the audience we have now.

My ask would be to forget everything after the first few minutes of Picard S2 and do a show about Captain Rios and Commander Seven.

A "lost era" setting is certainly upping my interest in the S31 movie...could be interesting!

PIC movie....ehhh....the real interest in it for me is that they're set in the latest parts of the trek timeline (32nd century notwithstanding). I'm really interested in something that will move the universe forward.

Movies: I'll believe it when I'm sitting in the theatre with popcorn.

The Legacy petition has massively surpassed the "show that ended up as SNW" petition in terms of numbers. Literally every post P+ and CBS put out on socials has dozens of #StarTrekLegacy comments. I don't think you can say based on the evidence there was more demand for the Pike show, despite what "you saw". Do you have any basis for that assertion, other than perhaps your own preference of show?

Just observing here on TrekBBS, less people seem interested in Legacy than they did for a Pike show.

Legacy, go take a seat next to the Captain Sulu / Excelsior series already.

Remember people larping on about that well past it's best before and it never happened?

It’s probably a when, and not an if, on something Legacy-esque. I don’t think it’s similar to the Sulu stuff for a lot of reasons.

That said! One of my earliest internet memories involves bumping into the Captain Sulu show petition page. So, that’ll always be in the back of my mind. I was like 12 and utterly confused.
